Antique Japanese Carved Ivory Okimono Figure of a Bijin c1900 (Code 1375)
A Japanese carved ivory Okimono of a Bijin with Shimida hairstyle. It dates around 1900 and is signed with a single character to the underside of the base plinth. The figure is carved in naturalistic form with flowing robes and engraving to simulate embroidery. It is attached to a disc base which appears original. Note how to the reverse the maker has used a natural flaw in the material incorporating it into the design with carving along the fissure. The figure is depicted holding a baton, it is quite possible this was originally a parasol with the top now lost, although the baton tip does look a little thin so it may also had been something smaller.
NOTE: This item can only be shipped within the EU.
Baton may be missing a parasol or other top attachment. Normal age related yellowing with whiter patches through handling/rubbing in spots. Natural fissure to reverse used in design. See images for close ups of condition.
