Antique Kashmir Brass & Silvered Niello Surahi Water Flask - Colonial Period (Code 2512)
A late 19th century surahi water flask made in the Kashmir region under colonial rule. It is made in brass with lacquer or niello inlay. The pattern includes coriander leaves and larger floral heads. There is also some silvering which has worn in areas, but you can see where it remains in the images. There are no makers marks which is usual for this region and period. Very decorative and evocative of the region.
Overall it has been kept well polished. The silvering is worn in many places through cleaning and handling. Compression to the should at one point, see image 5. Impact dent and loss of inlay see image 6.
