Antique Meiji Period Japanese Midnight Blue Silver Wire Cloisonne Vase c1900 (Code 2301)
A good quality late Meiji period Japanese cloisonne vase. It has a midnight blue ground which requires strong light to reveal the blue, otherwise it takes on a black gloss look. The ground enamel also has a slight glitter shimmer. The vase is decorated with prunus branches, roses, iris and a bird. It has a brass rim with mauve enamel inside the neck the base ring is silvered and there is green enamel to the underside. The cloisonne wires are silver colour. It is a good sized example, larger than most you see in this style.
Some light wear. Scratches to the base ring as expected for a period example. There is a chip in the enamel ground approx 5x5mm see images 8 & 9 for this.
