Antique Miniature Figured Walnut Armoire Table Top Cabinet / Jewellery Box (Code 1558)
A gorgeous small table top cabinet in the form of a miniature armoire. It is made in figured walnut and is late 19th century in period. It is made to remarkably fine tolerances for wood, the drawers inside are so well fitted that when you close one air pressure pushes the others forward a little. It is also very well detailed and carved as you can see and there are two custom cut arched and bevelled mirrors in the doors. The lock is also very elaborate for the item with a full length bar system locking at the top and bottom. The work is quite beyond what you would normally see in either a tradesmans sample or an apprentice piece so may have been made for exhibition or similar. The lock works and the doors enclose the inner drawers. The lower drawer does not lock. Usage wise it would make a fine jewellery box, or miniature curio cabinet or with the good sealing it may also be suitable for cigars.
Nice patina and finish, looks great to display. The turned knops to the top are replacements. The escutcheon on the right is a replacement made from plaster and painted. Some foxing to the mirrors, some screws missing from the lock panel (inside door). Drawer knops with damage and replacements. Good surface condition, see images for overall look.
