Description

A late 19th or early 20th century Ceylonese white metal box, it has repousse patterns in traditional style and on the lid these surround a mythical bird like creature. The box is circular and the lid is domed, the base can also be removed. These boxes were traditionally used for betel nut paraphernalia, but it could of course now be used for many purposes. The base has a chased pattern relating to the astrological. There are no makers marks and it is made of a low grade silver or white metal.


Condition

Typical period wear, some indents to the base, but these may well be from production. No major knocks or dents to the body and the lid fits snugly as it should.
