Antique Victorian Cut Glass Tazza/Sweetmeat Stand with Fold Over Rim c1870 (Code 2242)
A nice quality Victorian cut glass tazza. It is of good size and large enough to use for serving on a dinner table. The center is dished slightly so it would work for fancies, fruits, sweetmeats etc. The rim is folded downward in the Irish style and cut into petals with lens cuts on each. The center of the tazza also has very attractive scallop cuts. The base is heavily formed with a deep star cut.
There are of course no makers names, it is almost unheard of to have the makers name on glass from this period and it dates around 1870. It has a slight warm tone to the glass which is quite common for pieces from this period. A fine item piece which is of course perfectly ok to use.
Very good for period, due to the vulnerability and use these items are often badly chipped, however this one has just a couple of slight chips under the rim petals and a small flake chip to the foot. There is some minor wear and scratches to the top, but again less than expected for period.
