Antique Victorian Gentlemans Brass Bound Rosewood Vanity/Dressing Box/Case c1860 (Code 2079)

  • £32000

A high quality mid 19th century vanity case. Lovely brass bound design with rosewood and a locking lid. It still retains a lovely glossy surface finish with the French polish still in good order. Opening the lid reveals a leather coloured flap inside the lid which opens to a blank area behind for storage. The top tray has lift out sub trays with razors and pullers, underneath one is divided and the other side is foiled with a long bottle and another razor. There are also further lidded jars with the lids being silver plated. With the main tray removed the interior is blank as expected for extra storage. You can also see the framing material is mahogany, with the exterior being rosewood veneer of course.

Vanity cases were used by both men and ladies of the period, and this example dates around 1860. It is also a good mid sized example so will be easier to locate than some of the large pieces from this period. The lock also functions nicely.

A good period example with glossy polished exterior, some wear etc as expected for age. Some rippling of the brass stringing in the lid corner shown in close up. As to be expected there is wear to the interior and the fittings. Some fittings are missing and some are not original. Retains original though of course now worn baize to base, See images for overall exterior condition.
