Antique Victorian Gilt Brass Mechanical Shop Counter Top / Porters Bell (Code 1167)
A late 19th century counter bell with a gilt brass stand. The stand is cast with decorative detail and there is a finial with acanthus leaves. The bell itself is also likely brass but has an unusual colour tone, perhaps a special form which produces a good ring. The clapper is sprung and you depress it gently and release to produce the ring. There are no makers marks and it is likely late 19th century Victorian period. This type of bell would have been used on a counter to call a porter, or in a retail shop for example.
Gilt with significant wear as you would expect for the age, but the surface appears original. The bell is polished. Normal wear and aging. The shaft is brazed although this may be from original construction. Rings fine.
