Antique Victorian Golden Tiger Oak Wood Letter Correspondence Box with Lock (Code 1774)
A 19th century Victorian period oak correspondence letter box dating around 1880. It is in quarter sawn 'tiger' oak with a lovely deep honey coloured patina. The top has slots for letters with holesawn ends and there is gothic lettering denoting them as Answered and Unanswered. The interior is divided to match the slots above. There is a working lock and the key and tassle as seen in the images.
Good for period, nicely polished and good figuring to the wood. Minor wear, knocks and scratches as expected for period. Lock working. Lid slightly offset to the left as can be seen but does not appear to impede function.
