Antique Victorian Large Sweetheart Rotating Brooch/Pin Hair Locks & Painting (A1864)

Description
An antique Victorian period large brooch in gilt metal. The brooch is a rotating type and has a detent pin by the pin hinge which needs to be pulled out to allow the brooch to rotate. On one side is a hand painted oval of an Italian style scene set onto blue/green fabric. On the opposing side are locks of hair with a couple of seed pearls. It has a standard pin and c hook fastening and dates to the mid Victorian period. There are no makers details which is usual for this type of item.
The large size and bright colours suggest this was more likely to be a sweetheart piece rather than mourning jewellery.
It comes with the green box seen in the images. The box is much later and not related to the item but suits it nicely for keeping it safe.

Condition: Generally good for period with some wear to the gilt in spots. Some dust in the hair section along with some discoloured glue. See images for general presentation. Box with minor wear and aging.
