Antique William Moorcroft James Macintyre Aurelian Ware Tall Art Pottery Vase (Code 1698)
Before setting up the world famous Moorcroft Pottery William Moorcroft worked as design chief to James Macintyre & Co, also based in the Staffordshire potteries. He created a range of art pottery designs which are now highly prized including this example which is part of the range known as Aurelian, perhaps in honour of the Roman emperor. This particular vase has a tall baluster body and slender waisted lower section with the rim gently rolled outwards. The colours are those of the Imari palette and the blue has a definite hint of flow blue blurring the edges of the decoration which is a hallmark of this design. The Macintyre stamp is printed to the underside of the base along with the registered design number and this example dates around 1905.
Very good order, minor wear and slight gilt rubbing. Slight glaze imperfections from firing as often seen on these pieces. Tiny potting/firing flaw indent to foot rim edge. Some kiln dust in the glaze accumulations inside the rim.
