Description

A very attractive original Art Deco period small silver box.  The lid has a butterfly wing picture under glass, it features a lady with roses in a dress.  The colour changes depending on the angle viewed with the dress going from blue/purple to orange/yellow.   The background is silvery grey and black with some texture.  The lid is hinged and has a friction fit.  The interior still has some of the original gold wash. 
 
The box is hallmarked for the Birmingham Assay office with the date letter for 1923.  The lid has a repeat mark just under the catch.  The makers mark is W D.  There is also a patent mark stamped to the base.  Given the size, this would most likely have been used as a dressing table box or perhaps to hold a special piece of jewellery with a suitable insert. 
 
 

Condition

There are some minor marks and indents around the body but nothing which spoils it.  There is a bit of rubbing to the hallmark and some wear to the gilt interior.
