Black Lacquer & Papier Mache Victorian Antique Two Division Tea Caddy c1870 (Code 1806)
A Victorian period papier mache and black lacquer tea caddy of elaborate form dating around 1870. The top is profusely decorated with gold, red and green designs and there is further decoration around the base. There is a white metal escutcheon and the original lock still functions and is stamped with a crown and 'patent'. To the interior are two compartments with lids having carved mother of pearl knops. A significant proportion of the silvering to the compartments still remains which is quite unusual. A great example for the collector or those wanting a very decorative piece.
Some wear and losses to the decoration as expected, but generally much better than usual for type and age. No significant damage, lock functioning correctly. Some crazing to the lacquer.
