Rare Antique Bohemian Islamic Market Cased Glass Satin Blue/Amber Vase (Code 0834)
A delightful 19th century Persian shaped glass vase. It has an amber interior and is cased with a duck egg blue. It would have been made in Bohemia around 1850 and produced for the Islamic market sold through the Ottoman Empire or through into the Middle Eastern region. It is very well made, and cased glass like this is very difficult to produce. The surface has a satin finish. Sometimes these pieces were highly gilded and jewelled for the Turkish market and/or cut to produce a pattern in the glass beneath. It is unusual to find one left in the natural state. The colour grading is lovely and if back-lit you get an orange sun glow through the center area.
Good for period. Tiny nick to the rim. Minor surface scuffs. Some inconsistency to surface finish from production including a light swirl line visible in the main image. A lovely object.
