F&C Osler Rare Signed Cut Glass Vase/Sweetmeat Diamond Pattern & Ormolu Mounts (Code 2648)

Description

An ormolu mounted vase by F&C Osler dating to the mid Victorian period c1860.  Osler were of course most famous for producing exceptional chandeliers sold to the Indian and domestic markets with clients including Maharajah's and royalty.  This item may have been intended as a small vase, a candle holder or even as a sweetmeat dish.  It is remarkably heavy for the size and has a diamond cut pattern and decorative rim.  Note the winged lion paw feet which are most attractive.

The item is marked to the underside 'Osler', it is of course very rare to find a marked example and presents a scarce chance to acquire such an example.

 

Condition

A few chips to the rim (worst shown in close up) that do not generally detract.  Normal ageing to the ormolu with some gilt rubbing to the round ball fixings.
