A Fine Antique Bohemian Glass Scent/Perfume Bottle with Silver Mount & Portrait (code 8021)
A fine Bohemian early 20th Century antique scent bottle. The body is of green glass and features gilded detail with foliate twigs on a finely dotted ground. To the front is a hand painted portrait medallion on white glass. It depicts a young girl in period costume with long hair and curls.
The cap is Hallmarked silver for London 1902 making it Edwardian in period, and features a standing lion crest engraved to the top. The cap is silver gilt although much of the gilt has worn away through natural polishing. It has the makers mark TJW for Thomas Jones Watson of London. This silversmiths was noted for the production of such fittings and probably provided the glass factory with the lids rather than being the supplier of the bottle to the retail marked.
Inside the lid is a tight fitting glass stopper as you would expect.
Body in good order and gilt with only light rubbing for period with no significant sections missing.
Portrait in excellent order and finely painted as you can see in the close up.
The cap was gilded on top of the silver, much of which has been polished away over the years. The small interior stopper has some minor chips but functions correctly.
Overall a good example in good order for period.
Height 13.5 cms (5.25 inches)
Width 7.5 cms (3 inches) across base
