Description

A wonderful Indian silver tea set comprising teapot, milk jug and sugar bowl. It is richly decorated with a dense floral pattern of the Western Kutch region and they date around 1850. The teapot features an elephant knop and the handles of the teapot and milk jug are in the form of cobras. The interiors show signs of being gilded originally although it is now rather removed through years of cleaning. The set is unmarked aside some diamond point numerals to the bases of two of the pieces, this lack of marks is usual for Kutch silver of this period. The pieces test as quite a high grade of silver at .800 or more, but perhaps just short of Sterling grade. A fine looking set in good heavy gauge.
