Description

A late 18th century Georgian period mahogany single division cheese coaster.  This example is a little different in design than usual in having the handles with an open section, this of course would aid carrying.  It also does not appear to have been fitted with casters.  The handles are turned solid mahogany and there are roundels on the terminal sides of the body.  It has nice genuine aged patina and of course these items are quite scarce and much sought after.

 

Condition

General wear, marks, knocks and patina, see images.  Minor shrinkage splits and one more obvious example to one side at the base join.  Some glue residue to the base corners where someone had stuck some plastic feet (now removed).
