Georgian Silver Toddy Ladle with Repousse Bowl and Baleen Handle c1820 (Code 2398)
A very attractive repousse worked silver toddy ladle. It dates to the very early 19th century, George III or George IV period. The bowl is of pan form and somewhat sturdier than usual. The repousse work is well formed with floral detail and slightly twisted designs. The handle is baleen and has a good twist to the top half and a silver cap. The rim has a milled finish for which the fine detail has softened with polishing. There appear to be no hallmarks at all, this is quite common on toddy ladles of the period. The bowl tests as Sterling silver.
Generally good for period and considering it is 200 years old. Normal light wear, and detail loss in the milled rim. Small split to ferrule along the line the silver was joined originally visible in main image and image 5.
