Indo-Persian / Qajar Tile Panel - Antique Four Tile Set Hand Made and Painted (Code 2147)
A four tile panel featuring a seated figure with axe and decorative objects. The border is decorated to look like curtains or perhaps the entrance to a tent. The tiles are flat and painted then over glazed. The ground is a light oatmeal colour with blue/green tones where the over glaze is thicker. They have developed an attractive crackle as can be seen. The glaze is thick as is the style for this region. The reverse sides are plain and the tiles are hand made and hand decorated, each being approx 19.5 by 20 cm (almost square).
The tiles are in the Indo-Persian style probably late Qajar period c1900. They do not seem to have been previously cemented, although there were adhesive traces so they may have been used as a table top or similar.
Some wear to the glaze surface and glaze losses and minor chipping around the edges. Typical inconsistencies from being hand made. See images for general condition.
