Japanese Kutani Ware Antique Small Tea Bowl with Bijin & Attendants Meiji c1870 (Code 2500)
A 19th century Meiji period Japanese Kutani porcelain small bowl. The shape is typical of a tea bowl but the item was not intended for use and is a purely decorative piece. It is finely painted in the traditional palette. There is a vignette of a Bijin, attendant and child on a decorative mat which is offset from the center. There are further patterns and vermiform gilt work. It has a hand scripted mark to the base reading Kutani Sei and it dates around 1870. Overall a very nice little example of a high standard.
Very good for period, wear is very limited. Some roughness around the foot from firing/production.
