Japanese Satsuma Ware Vase with Children at Play - Antique Meiji/Taisho (Code 2721)
A Japanese Satsuma ware vase from the late Meiji or Taisho period. It is in the traditional cream clay and decorated with moriage along with the painted forms. The scenes are children at play and three men perhaps in discussion or planning. There are lots of decorative patterns and forms to the surrounding areas and neck.
It is marked to the base in what appears to be katakana and these seem to be numbering rather than a makers name.
Crazing which is of course intentional with Satsuma. Some wear and ageing in places. Minor graze scrape just below rim and further glaze scrapes around the base. Very slight lean to the neck due to warpage during firing
