Pair Japanese Kutani Ware Porcelain Candlesticks by Muraaki - Antique Meiji (Code 2547)
A pair of 19th century Japanese Kutani ware porcelain candlesticks. They are intricately painted with figures visiting Mt Fuji and a view of the mountain from one of the lakes with a pagoda in the foreground. There is fine gilt work and scrolling details with patterns and decorative forms. The sconces are formed like leaves and the drip pans an integral. Script marks in red to the bases for 'painted by Muraaki'. Meiji period.
One with a piece of the sconce broken out and neatly reglued with some small losses to the glaze on the exterior. Otherwise just minor wear.
