Pair Large Antique Joseph Brems-Varain of Saarbrucken German Silver Candlesticks (Code 2212)
A pair of impressive late 19th century German silver candlesticks / candelabra bases by noted silversmith Joseph Brems-Varain of Saabrucken. They are of fluted column form with defined capitals and decorative bases having leaf borders. They have weighted bases to increase stability and the sockets of the sconces are threaded so they can take candelabra branches as well as candles.
Joseph Brems-Varain was noted for working extensively with the cathedral at Triers, producing fine silver items. The candlesticks bear the makers name around the base. They are made from 800 grade German silver and this is also stamped around the base along with the German Sonne und Reichkrone control mark.
Good for period with some expected wear. Some small knocks and deeper scratches around the top of the scones/sockets. No wear through or significant knocks or damages to the columns or bases.
