Pair of Antique Japanese Kutani Ware Hand Painted Vases with Birds & People (Code 1590)
A pair of late 19th century Japanese Kutani ware bottle shaped vases with shaft and globe bodies. They are decorated in traditional colours of iron red and gilt. Both have one face with an exotic green backed bird and the other face with a character and child. There is further pattern work and decorative gilt. The bases have the Kutani Made mark in iron red and possibly Tsukuru following. Good traditional examples.
Both with gilt wear and rubbing from handling and cleaning over many years and also minor paint loss in places. One with faint hairline to base, little more than a craze line.
