Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Silver Stopper Flagon Set - Original Antique Basket (code 7959)
A rare Doulton stoneware decanter picnic set in its original wicker basket. The three decanters have W, B, & G to the handles denoting Whisky, Brandy and gin respectively. The decanters have the Doulton Lambeth impressed marks and an incised mark EM for Emily Mayne. They also have registration lozenges for 1880 making them late Victorian. Two decanters have slate blue sides and one has a contrasting dark blue glaze. They are fitted with silver topped stoppers which have Dutch Hallmarks for the Dutch standard .833 silver and these are early 20th Century. Each stopper is a different design.
A lovely set for the Doulton collector looking for something unusual and very hard to obtain.
Minor production flaws including a couple of slight surface tears to bases of two decanters from firing. Gin decanter has some glaze scraping and chips to raised dots on handles.
Decanters generally good with the odd minor chip and scrape to raised points.
Basket somewhat aged and a little more flexible than when new but still serviceable and nice being the original.
Height 20 cms (8 inches) decanter excluding stopper
Width 36 cms (14 inches) basket
Weight 3560 grams (before packing).
