Royal Doulton Art Deco Series Ware Plate Gnomes/Munchkins D4697 by Charles Noke (Code 0900)
A Doulton series ware plate in the delightful and much sought after Gnomes pattern (D4697) (aka Munchkins Pattern in the USA). This pattern was designed by Charles Noke who was the Art Director at the Burslem facility at the time. According to the records the pattern was derived from drawings by Arthur Rackham 1867-1939 who famously illustrated the Peter Pan book by JM Barrie. The design was first released in 1925 and produced until the mid century. This example has a date cypher for 1930 placing it in the Art Deco period. It is a shaped rim plate and was probably intended for sandwiches.
Generally good, a few scratches which look like utensil marks. Glaze flaw to the reverse near the rim from production.
