Sampson Mordan & Co Antique Victorian Carved Cow Horn & Silver Beaker / Tumbler (2931)

  • £23500

Description

A fine Victorian period carved horn (bovine) and silver beaker by Sampson Mordan & Co.  It is beautifully carved with flowers and a variety of birds.  It has a silver rim with griffin head crest.  The base features a glass disk which is an interesting and unusual feature.  The hallmark is partially rubbed, (but we have another with a complete mark) so we can confirm it is by Sampson Mordan & Co and hallmarked in London and dated 1882.

Such a rare find with the detailed carving, we have seen plenty of horn beakers in our time, but nothing like this in our 20+ years as antique dealers.

Condition

Very good for period, minor wear, some light scratches to the silver and tiny rim indents.  Hallmark partially rubbed.
