  • £000

Description

A late 19th century Meiji period satsuma ware nishikide vase by Hattori c1870. It is decorated with Rakan and other characters with some seated alone and others in groups. The shoulders and other areas are decorated with fine pattern work. Hattori was noted for the high quality of the decorative work and he taught at the Kyoto ceramic center amongst others. He was also involved with the Japanese government advising on design and crafts. The high quality and interesting background of Hattori makes his work all the more sought after and it is also quite scarce. Signed to the base Hattori Zo Satsuma-Yaki.

Condition

Minor gilt wear around the rim and shoulders but generally very good. It of course has the fine glaze crazing as expected for genuine satsuma ware.
