Two Graduated Antique Saffordshire Moulded Pottery Jugs with Man and Lions(Code 0548)
Two 19th century graduated and moulded jugs. They both feature the same scene of a man in Roman style armour surrounded by lions, other big cats and a sheep. In the background there is a tower on a hill and above are pennants with crests. The handles are moulded in the form of lions. I suspect this depicts a Biblical scene, but unfortunately there are no markings to confirm this. To the underside there are no makers marks, and they would Staffordshire around 1840-60 in date. Nice blue glaze and well moulded for their type.
Smaller jug with the colour changing a little towards the base. Some glaze wear and rubbing to high points. Larger jug with foot rim chip (image 6) and small chip inside rim (image 7). Light age related wear and some light crazing.
