The head is arranged around a vertical row of three turquoise cabochons, framed by polished gold strapwork. To either side are small split pearls set into shaped gold panels, with applied bead details continuing the decorative treatment onto the shoulders. The contrast between the bright blue turquoise, soft pearl lustre and warm yellow gold is especially effective.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe design has a clear late 19th century character. The strapwork framing, the bead shoulder detail and the alternating turquoise and pearl arrangement are all typical of the period, but the execution here is particularly clean and the stones are well matched in colour and size.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTurquoise is the birthstone for December.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTurquoise carried strong sentimental associations throughout the Victorian period.
