Victorian Antique Wooden Two Division Sarcophagus Tea Caddy with Internal Caddies (Code 2595)

  • £13500

Description

A Victorian period sarcophagus shaped tea caddy dating around 1860.  It is in rosewood and has a domed top piece.  There is a mother of pearl escutcheon and brass lock.  The interior has two divisions with box form caddies which lift out.  These caddies have hinged lids with domed tops.  There are bun feet to the base.  Nice grain and figuring to the wood as seen in the images.  Very thick walls and panels and much heavier than usual for this type of item.

Condition

Small veneer losses around the edges of the lid.  Normal age related wear.  Losses to lid edge of one of the internal caddies and hinge section damaged to one of the internal caddies.  Lock working but a bit fussy, lid hinges good.  Age related shrinkage split to back panel (relatively restrained) all in keeping with period.
