Victorian Walnut Tea Caddy Box with Parquetry Banding and Twin Divisions c1860 (Code 2263)
A mid 19th century Victorian tea caddy of domed form with two compartments. It has a Walnut veneered exterior over a mahogany carcass. It has two bands of detailed parquetry running around the lid and the front panel. It has a brass lock which still works and brass hinges. The interior features two divisions with mahogany lids having turned knops. Some of the silvering remains inside the tea divisions. The base has black felt which is a later replacement. A great looking example with nice figuring to the walnut.
Nicely finished and a good display example. Minor shrinkage splits in the veneer typical for the age. Some losses of veneer to the corners. Felt to base is a replacement. Wear and losses to silvering inside. Lock and hinges work fine.
