An early to mid 20th century silver bowl presented as a golf trophy.  It is interesting for a number of reasons, the bowl itself has an Art Deco feel and design and the flower repousse work to the base is perhaps more associated with Thai (Siam) silver than Indian.  It has a date for presentation of 1959 which seems a little late given the form, so its use as a trophy perhaps post dates the production by perhaps 20 years or so.  The inscription reads 'Bangalore Services Bankers & Merchants Golf 1959 Winner' which is almost a hangover from colonial times and something you would expect to see pre WW2.  So it was perhaps a leftover from earlier times and re used as the ghosts of empire were finally dissipating.  Unfortunately the winners name does not appear so further background may not be traceable.  There are no legible makers marks, there is perhaps some form of stamp to the edge of the foot rim, but it cannot be made out.  Good thickness of silver and heavier than average for it's type.  Tests as high purity silver.

 

Good order with just minor wear.
