Vintage Hand Made Sterling Silver Jewish Judaica Scroll of Esther Holder / Case (Code 2257)
An artisan hand made silver scroll holder. In this example the scroll is held inside and removed via the open end, perhaps used for the scroll of Esther rather than Megillah given the size. A Jewish contact also notes these are also used for herbs during ceremony.
The central pierced work is actually cast then rolled rather than being fretwork and all the pieces are hand made which you can see in the artisan type construction. It is stamped somewhat indistinctly to the inner rim with (presumably) '925', and it does indeed test as Sterling grade silver. Possibly Middle Eastern in origin and perhaps early 20th century in period.
Artisan made and far from a factory perfect piece with it's hand made charm. Minor wear.
