C. Reading \u0026amp; Co and hallmarked in 1955. Its broad front is hand cut with flowers, leaves and curved stems over a finely worked linear ground. Narrow dotted borders run along the upper and lower edges; the reverse is plain and polished.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe bangle hinges at one side and closes with a traditional slide clasp. A fine silver safety chain is permanently attached across the fastening. The maker's mark, sterling silver hallmark and date letter are struck inside the bangle.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eN. C. Reading \u0026amp; Co was a Birmingham jewellery manufacturer active from the late 19th century. The firm is recorded at Hall Street, with earlier production associated with Warstone Lane. In the late Victorian period it was known for jewellery in its registered “Albo Silver” white metal alloy, including chains, lockets and bangles. British Museum material from the firm's earlier production includes circa 1890 bangles with original N.C.R.Co trade labels.
