Vintage War Time Egyptian Hallmarked Islamic Design Chased Small Silver Dish (Code 0998)
An early mid 20th century Egyptian silver dish in the Islamic taste. The dish is the size of a small saucer and was probably for offerings or for use on a dressing table etc. It is finely chased with Islamic style calligraphic scrolls and repeating patterns. To the underside it has an Egyptian silver mark for assaying in Cairo at the 900 silver standard (900 parts per 1000 of silver). There is also a date letter for 1940 which is a little unusual as it's in the middle of WW2 where production of ornamental ware was significantly reduced. It's certainly very decorative and a nice small size for your collecting cabinet. The front is quite nicely polished and the reverse has some patina building - when purchasing if you would like the reverse also polished please add a note and I will do this for you.
Good order, no significant faults.
