Walker & Hall Sterling Silver Ladies Powder Compact - Hallmarked Chester 1959 (Code 2229)
A good quality Walker & Hall powder compact in Sterling silver. It has engine turning and a decorative edge with vacant cartouche which can be etched with initials. It opens to reveal a mirror inset into the lid and has a flip cover to the powder compartment. Beneath this are the marks for the maker and the silver hallmark for the Chester assay office with the date being 1959. Note also the careful attention to detail with the metal inset being labelled separately to ensure it is not mis-identified as silver. Walker & Hall are of course a longstanding manufacturer with a reputation of high quality.
Generally good for period, a small indent to the lid. Some deterioration of the mirror silvering - note the line in the mirror rising from the bottom edge is a flaw in the silvering, not a crack.
