Wedgwood Black Basalt Ltd Edition Plaque The Frightened Horse by George Stubbs (Code 0658)
A Wedgwood black basalt plaque of 'The Frightened Horse'. The scene is from the original by George Stubbs painted in the late 18th century. Stubbs often worked with Wedgwood and the original of this plaque was worked around 1780, and Wedgwood has continued to produce it on and off throughout the years since. This example was released as a limited edition run in 1973 or just 250 examples (this being number 155) and it was of course a very expensive piece when produced. It comes with the original antique style frame and chain hanger and has the flock mount which Wedgwood used during this period. These did originally some with a box and certificate, however these are not present with this example.
Plaque in fine order with no faults detected. Frame with minor wear and aging (please note the distressing of the frame is intentional from production). No certificate or box present.
