Description
A Georgian period Croix de St Lo pendant from Normandy in France. These items are dated to the very late 18th or early 19th century. This example is made in silver and tests as high grade probably sterling standard. It also has a control marked stamped to one of the front sections which is shown in close up. The pendant has four round facet cut stones and one pear drop stone which is on an articuated section. The backs are enclosed and there is a built in bale with later jump ring. The main stones are a black dot set form and somewhat unsusually they are quartz (rock crystal) rather than the usual glass. The smaller stones are a mix of quartz and glass so it is possible some are not original.
A classic piece of French jewellery from quite an early period.

Condition: It has period wear and there are minor chips to some of the stones. It is possible some of the small stones are replacements. There are some dents to the back and there is a small hole through the back enclosure to one of the main gems at the rim point.
