Mourning Jewellery

A carefully selected collection of antique mourning jewellery, spanning the great tradition of Victorian memorial and bereavement adornment. Our pieces include examples in Whitby Jet, Vulcanite, and gold-set work.

Mourning jewellery reached its peak during the Victorian era, driven in large part by Queen Victoria's own decades-long observance of mourning following the death of Prince Albert in 1861. Pieces range from brooches and bracelets to rings and lockets, often incorporating hair, inscriptions, or symbolic motifs such as weeping willows, urns, and forget-me-nots. Whitby Jet - quarried on the Yorkshire coast - remains the most prized and collectable of the mourning materials, distinguished from manufactured Vulcanite (hard rubber) by its lighter weight and warmer lustre.

Whether you are a dedicated collector of Victorian jewellery, researching mourning customs, or simply drawn to the quiet beauty of these pieces, each item in our collection is selected for quality and authenticity.
