Description

A late 18th century George III period silver milk or cream jug.  It is of extended helmet style with a pedestal foot.  The handle has a reeded line and the jug rim is dotted. It is hallmarked to the foot rim with a London mark for 1789 with the maker likely Thomas Olliphant.

The jug is hand beaten and the planishing marks are still visible to the interior. Interestingly the jug was likely made from their own workshop smelt as there is variation in the surface colour indicative of an uneven alloy.  The front of the jug has initials A-H.

Condition

Generally good for period. A couple of very minor indents around the body and a couple of knocks to the foot rim corners with the silver joins separating very slightly in one corner. Uneven alloy suggesting they smelted the silver in their own workshop for this piece.
