Description

An antique German made counter top bell.  It is in the form of a snail with a cast iron body and steel components.  The mechanism is clockwork and works by winding the 'shell'.  Pressing the button activates the bell and it has the sound rather like an old mechanical bicycle bell.  To the snail casting it is marked DRGM which stands for Deutsches Reichs Gebauchsmuster.  It likely dates pre WW1.
 
Great fun and very cute looking item.  As the mechanism is over 100 years old we would not recommend it for commercial use on a shop counter today. 
 
 

Condition

Working fine and looking very good.  Castings and steel cleaned.  Lots of patina to the 'shell'.  Wooden base plinth repainted and new fabric to underside.
