Description

A late 19th or early 20th century Japanese Meiji period page turner.  It is in mixed metal predominantly brass overlaid with silver and copper.  The handle features a farmer to one side under large canopy leaves.  The other side features a water buffalo with a stylised tree.  The turner is engraved with various details.  
 
There are no makers marks visible.  As typical for these items the shaft can be pulled out of the handle and a tang protrudes from the bottom below the handle. 
 
 

Condition

Some period wear and minor nicks to the edge of the shaft.  Handling wear and softening to the handle.  Some patina particularly around the handle and raised detail.  See images for overall look.
