Description

An early 20th century sterling silver sovereign holder.  It is shaped like a small pocket watch of the period and has engraved details to the front along with initials possibly TH. It has a push button opening and inside there is the usual spring loaded mechanism for a full sovereign.  Inside the lid it has the Birmingham hallmark for 1914 with the makers initials for John Thompson & Sons of London.  Interestingly the repeat mark on the retainer has a Chester mark for the same year so the company must have been having components assayed at different offices.  It has a sturdy suspension ring which has the silver lion mark.
 
 

Condition

Good order with minor wear.  Clasp hinge and suspension ring all fine.  Sovereign mechanism working correctly. A couple of very tiny indents in places.
