Description
A scarce early design mechanical pencil by Richard Mosley of London dating c.1840 (William IV or early Victorian). It has a sliding action to reveal the tip and then it has a twist action to propel the lead. The push back is manual.
To the top it has a screw in cap which opens to reveal a space to store lead. The cap is also set with a very nice facet cut natural citrine gemstone. The pencil is in sterling silver, however does not have hallmarks which is usual for this maker. It is marked Mosely London to the barrel.
Condition
Very good for period with some softening of the detail through use. Slide action smooth and propelling mechanism working fine. Not hallmarked but tests as sterling silver. Some lead in place.
