Description
A Victorian large silver locket from the Aesthetic period. The locket front is divided into panels separated by geometric designs. Both panels feature birds, one appears to be a kingfisher over water attempting to catch a mayfly. The other has a bird perched on a branch. The locket is hallmarked to the reverse. The marks are a little worn but can be made out to be Birmingham 1881. Only one letter of the makers initials is visible (R).
The locket opens to reveal two glazed panels with retaining rings and black fabric beneath. It comes with quite a sturdy chain, the chain is possibly period but the spring ring closure is a later mid 20th century replacement and is marked sterling. The locket is very attractive and of good size making for a nice feature necklace.

Condition: Generally very good for the period. The front of the locket with light wear. The hinge and closure of locket fine. Spring ring working fine. Some minor dents and knocks to the reverse of the locket.
