Description
A lovely late 19th century Victorian period locket and fancy chain. The locket is of elaborate for with a central reserve having a star with illusion setting. It is surrounded by bands of embossed stars and nodules and there are protruding nodules around the outer part of the locket. The reverse of the locket has chain detail and raised star type designs with a flat central area having the hallmark. The hallmark is for Birmingham with date letter for 1892. The makers mark is possibly for William Acraman.
The locket opens to reveal two compartments. Both have retaining rings and red fabric lining. There is no glass.
The bale appears to be a custom made type with pivot at the bottom. The bale has a lion mark for silver. The chain is connected with a large early type spring.
The chain is the star of the show with fretwork style foliage having raised dot detail. Each link is joined by a simple round link. Overall it has a wonderful look of grand Victorian jewellery.

Condition: Very good order for period. Some light wear. A few very tiny indents to the reverse of the locket. Interior of locket with two retaining rings but no glass.
