Antique Wedgwood Hand Painted & Pierced Aesthetic Plate with Rose by Dean c1880 (Code 2519)

Description

A Wedgwood china cabinet plate dating to the late 19th century c1880.  The plate body is in the Aesthetic style with pieced panels of prunus blossom in gilt and accented in scarlet and turquoise.  The border is glazed in a subtle turquoise and there are further gilt designs.  In contrast the center is painted with a large English style rose bloom beginning to open.  It is signed 'Dean', this artist doesn't appear in the usual Wedgwood references, but a number of pieces have gone through the art market with this signature and similar style painting.  To the reverse it has the Wedgwood Portland vase mark in orange.

Condition

Very good for period, minor gilt wear to the rim.  Minor scratches to the well edges, perhaps stacking wear.
