Description

A late Art Deco silver powder compact with an engine turned pattern.  It is of round form with hinge and latch in the traditional style.  The lid has a cartouche for engraving, this remains blank.  It dates to the first year post WW2 when production of luxury items was still very limited.  The makers mark is probably for V Brittain & Co of Vyse Street in Birmingham in the famous jewellery quarter.

The compact opens to reveal a mirror inset to the lid and an open compartment for the powder below.  When compacts were in popular use you could of course easily buy the powder in various sizes to fit into them.  Inside the base there is the hallmark for Birmingham 1946 with the makers stamp.

Condition

Good for period, minor wear with no significant faults.  Hinge and catch good.
